About The Devil Speaks
Each episode of The Devil Speaks immerses viewers into a warm and happy world of people whose lives are about to be overturned by a brutal murder. A combination of dramatic reconstruction, documentary footage, and archive provided by contributors introduces us to a cast of characters and the world they inhabit. As the police investigation starts, so does the guessing game. Mystery surrounds the victims, the motive, and ultimately the perpetrator. The Devil Speaks will use real recordings to peel back the layers of the case; from police interviews, to recorded phone-calls and voicemails, we build a context of sound to support and enhance the story telling. Friends and family connect us with the victim, law enforcement officers walk us through the investigation, and acquaintances of the perpetrator throw us off their tail. In the final acts, each episode will have one piece of audio that is the lynchpin to the investigation. A wiretap, secret or accidental recording. When investigators get their hands on the files, we turn off the lights, sit back and hit play, listening first before we analyse. Is it a straight up confession, or can you hear a mysterious voice in the background? Using a combination of bespoke graphics and text, this audio will be fetishized, replayed and analysed until the evidence is plain to hear. Only then do we tie all the elements together, showing the chain of events that lead to the murder.
